I’m the author of HAYWIRE and the forthcoming A MINOR MAGIC. When not hard at work on my next story I host the popular Dead Robots’ Society podcast. I and my lovely wife live in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex along with our motley pack of dogs and cats that we think of as our children. I’m also a co-host on The Hollywood Outsider, a weekly podcast about movies and television.

Dave Robison has indulged in creative pursuits his entire life. His CV includes writing Curious George fan-fiction at the age of eight, improv theater at age ten, playing trumpet at age twelve, as well as a theater degree, creating magazine cover art, writing audio scripts, designing websites, creating board games, hosting mythological roundtables and generally savoring the sweet drought of expression in all its forms. His years of exploration give him a unique, informed, and eloquent perspective on the art of storytelling.

Dragons of Autumn Twilight is one of my favorite books, too. I never read Fantasy before that book, and it turned my life upside down into being a Fantasy geek. I barely had time to watch The Stand, let alone read it, so kudos there ;).

Pearl Jam is also one of my favorite bands. Kids used to make fun of me in sixth grade for my adult XL Pearl Jam t-shirt I got from a carnival, but I didn’t care. I still get goosebumps rocking out to Vs. Candlebox is one of those groups I listened to in between my fifteen straight listens to Pearl Jam albums, so hearing one of their songs recently took me back, like, “Oh yeah, they were pretty good, too.”

Excellent choice, Roundtable Podcast, on snatching Justin for an episode. I can’t wait to hear it.

By the way, Justin’s book HAYWIRE was awesome and the kindle version is on sale, currently, at $3.99. That is a steal.

When we confronted him, Justin confessed that The Roundtable Podcast is indeed his lovechild (and we have it on record now). We’ll be sending him a Father’s Day card this year. 😉

I was actually a little surprised to see a game-based book in a “Favorites” list. I realize the Dragonlance adventures were a pivotal point in RPG literature (heck, I DMed the games as they came out) but I never realized how big it was (there’s a DVD for crying out loud!).

My personal introduction to fantasy lit was Robert E. Howard’s “Conan” novels, and Michael Moorcock “Elric” (for contrast). “The Hobbit” is in there somewhere as well. It kind of blows my mind to hear that Dragons of Autumn Twilight was someone’s first fantasy book (dang… I’m getting old).

Ha, you’re not the only one who’d felt old at me saying that was my first Fantasy book. I suppose it doesn’t make you feel any better if I say I haven’t heard of the two you mentioned. Were they written on paper or carved into stone? 😉 Just kidding, I have heard of both of those authors, and know Mike Stackpole wrote a novelization of the Conan movie.

Thanks for the shoutout to my podcast. I hope you found a comfy chair to listen to that one in, as it was a long one.
