The Return of the Roundtable (and a New Forum)!

We'll Be Back... SOON!
We’ll Be Back… SOON!

Wow. It’s been a while, huh (for those of you new to the feed and are curious about the long silence, check out this blog post for clarification).

I won’t keep you in suspense. New episodes of the Roundtable Podcast will be going live in July.

*cue thunderous applause and audible sighs of relief*

You all have been amazing… patient, understanding, and so very supportive of the circumstances that have kept me away from the podosphere for the better part of a year.  Without you, this past year would have been a very different and much lonelier experience. I consider myself very lucky indeed to have friends and listeners with such a generosity of spirit.

Wait… JULY!?!?

What do you mean JULY!?!
What do you mean JULY!?!

I know, it feels like a long way off, but there’s a lot that goes on to make this thing happen. Have you ever seen an author’s schedule? It’s a temporal nightmare, like a tesseract wrapped in a black hole and overrun with deranged bore worms. Negotiating those waters takes time and patience.

Plus I have a sekrit projekt in the works that will be consuming a lot of my time between now and then. My editors aren’t letting me say anything until the paperwork is nailed down, but it’s pretty frickin’ amazing. I’ll share when I can.

Trust me, the time between now and July will fly by. Once the schedule starts coming together, I’ll do a calendar post to whet your whistle.

(hmph) Fine. What Are We Supposed to do Until Then?

ForumWell, there’s the new Roundtable Podcast Forum.

Wait… I didn’t mention that? I had been promising a forum for the RTP for months prior to the hiatus. Now that there’s been a bit of grace, I figured it was good time to get it up there. See that “Forum” link up on the menu bar? That’s it. Go check it out.

This is an experiment. I’m betting there’s enough pilgrims on the trail of Literary Gold to support a forum community, but I’m not sure. But we’ll never know until we try, right?I have topic threads for every workshop episode and interview we’ve posted. There’s also a “Brainstorming” forum where you can post an idea or a problem and ask for feedback. And that’s it… for now. I’m relying on you for suggestions for new forums or subforms. I have lots of ideas, but I’d rather let it grow organically based on what you all want to do with it.

Right now, the only rules are Wheaton’s Law. Offering feedback and brainstorming ideas can be a tricky business… if you have to Google “constructive criticism”, it’s best to stick with focusing on the positive. Be respectful, be awesome. We’ll figure out the rest as we go.

I missed you guys. I’m looking forward to getting back behind the mic.

We missed you too, dear.

Sweet! Welcome back! 😀

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart as well, for all of your thoughtful expressions of concern and caring. And now…it’s a delight to have all of you travel forth with us, into our New Frontier. : )

You’re back!!!!!! Yeah baby!

That’s awesome, Dave! Or not (for you), I know how much time this sort of thing takes, and you guys put out one of the most rigorous productions around. I’m glad for July at least so you can build a back log.

Huzzah! So excited you all are back!

Yay! Oh I’m so happy you’re back! We missed you!

Hell! Yes! Welcome back! Can’t wait!

Very glad to hear the return is on the horizon! And July? Well that’s just going to make it like a an extra birthday gift for me. Marking the calendar now.

Where’s a great big shiny gold “LIKE” button when you need it? Great to have you back!

Excited to have you back too David. Good to hear. I’ll go check out the forum too. 🙂 Thank you!

It will be good to have you guys back, Dave. I don’t think I’ll be able to participate as much as I would like to (life is getting in the way) but I surely will be listening to every single episode.

And let us know about the secret project as soon as you can! 🙂

Looking forward to July. I’ve been missing my awesome sauce.

Wish I could hit the “like” button 20 times or so. Can’t wait for the awesomeness to begin again!

Welcome dude, looking forward to this getting back on the schedule. It’s been greatly missed.

So very glad to see this! Marking my calendar!

Welcome back brothers. I will start spreading the word tonight. Best news today!

Hi Dave,
You were recommended to moi just a week before you stopped the Podcasts I’m gonna make sure I don’t miss out this time around. Welcome back.

I’m glad to hear this! I discovered the podcast just in time for the hiatus, and I’ve been slowly working my way through the backlog. Maybe by the time I catch up, it’ll be in time to hear them “live,” as it were. Yay!

Squee! I can’t wait for more episodes and to hear what you’ve been working on!

Oh man, I just saw this recently, and it’s probably the best news I’ve heard all week. I only found out about the podcast end of December/beginning of January, and I already can’t wait to get onto the show as a guest writer. (Now I just need to decide which of the ~ half dozen story ideas I’m presently working on would be best to workshop.)

I’ve also been burning to offer some constructive criticism on a piece of advice you gave on one of your earliest episodes. I know it’s been over two years, but I think it’s big enough to merit a proper response, no matter how tardy. However, since I am going to disagree vehemently with an assertion that you made, I’ve held off posting until I had some assurance that you’re ready to get back into the game – I didn’t want to post anything critical (no matter how well-meant) while you were in a delicate emotional place. Now however … Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.

We’ll welcome any rational discourse on any topic. Lord knows, there are a thousand ways to tell a story and I’ve only worked through six of ’em. 😉

But I will refer you to our disclaimer prior to every workshop: Anything we say may be (and quite often is) complete bullshit twaddle! 😀

Oh yes, I had the standard disclaimer very firmly in mind for this one …

Great news! I had just caught up with the archives when the show went on hiatus. So glad to see it didn’t have to be permanent. Can’t wait for that Literary Gold to start flowing once more. I also hope to finally hear a brainstorming episode with Mary Robinette Kowal. Ones with Brandon Sanderson and Howard Tayler would also be great; then you would have the whole Writing Excuses set!

Is it July Yet?
